We know when a parent or school staff feels unsure about the safety of a student, it is very concerning and critical to get a mental health support. We are here to help not only provide relief and assurance for parents and educators, but also to provide a plan to help students improve their mental health and ability to return to school in order to live their life and become positive role models and citizens in the classroom and world.
Inspire has trained mental health professionals available to do an assessment to determine if a student is safe to return to school, or needs additional support or higher level of care. Inspire will do it’s best to schedule Safety Evaluations same-day or next-day, depending on the availability of the student and family.
Student Safety Evaluation Process
What issues is Inspire qualified to evaluate?
Mental health concerns, suicidal ideation, trauma, bullying
What issues is Inspire NOT qualified to evaluate?
Physical violence, active suicidal attempts, students who are currently under the influence of drugs or
alcohol
What will the first appointment be like?
It will be a 60-minute assessment. Parent/Guardian will be included for a portion of the session and must remain onsite for a safety/risk assessment for the safety evaluation summary.
What follow up support is available?
After the first assessment, follow-up support is necessary for the student’s stabilization and reintegration. If the student is safe to return to school, a short-term safety plan is offered at Inspire. This includes one (50-minute) appointment, weekly for 6-8 weeks.
If a higher level of care is needed, you will be given contact information for immediate or longer-term support.
What if I think my child needs medication?
Inspire has Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners available to prescribe and manage medication. If you would like a psychiatric evaluation, please let the team know when you book your Safety Evaluation. Psychiatric Evaluations are not available same-day, but the team will find the soonest appointment available for you and your child.
