Meet our Northbrook therapist, Jared Pulley, MA, LPC.

Jared's a father, husband and mental health professional for nearly 15 years. He has seen (personally and professionally) how the safety, compassion and power of counseling can create healing and growth.

During Jared's personal journey, he overcame a late diagnosis of ADHD in college, anxiety, depression, a career change, chronic health issues and infertility struggles, which came with pain and grief. Thriving through these challenges, he's now passionate about helping other males overcome life's challenges.

In his junior year of college, Jared struggled to complete assignments that seemed easy for others. With a friend’s support, he got tested and learned he had ADHD. Learning about ADHD was helpful, but it didn’t make the symptoms disappear. He has learned many creative ways to reduce its impact on life and even see how ADHD can be a superpower!

Jared also personally understands the restrictive and debilitating effects of anxiety and depression. He learned that despite their disruptive effects, are the body’s way of trying to get our attention. Many males are conditioned to ignore our needs or learned that our feelings aren’t valid.

Before having their first child, Jared learned about the journey of infertility. As a male, he often felt like just a number at the clinic, not a patient going through this experience alongside his wife. While he and his wife are happy to be growing their family, he also grew with compassion for people struggling with chronic health conditions, infertility and how it can impact your mental health.

At the heart of Jared's work is a stance of compassion. Often, compassion feels foreign to males or is confused with societal messages of weakness. He learned its importance as I entered the helping field and realized that I treated others with more compassion than I treated myself.

Jared is accepting new clients at our Northbrook office. To schedule, call (or TEXT) 847-919-9096 or hello@inspirecounselingcenter.com
Allow me to introduce you to Tom Agan, MHP, Northwestern clinical intern

Tom is a Harvard MBA graduate who has published articles in the New York Times after spending more than 40 years in the business world leading large global teams, earning top rankings as a coach and mentor.

Beyond his career experience, Tom would argue he has learned even more from his life experience. He is a proud husband for more than 35 years and father of 3 grown children. He and his family have lived around the world in London, Georgia, rural Massachusetts, and New York City, before laying their roots in Northbrook (in a house filmed on Ferris Bueller!).

He has faced many of life's struggles--from being bullied as a child, wanting to be a better parent, losing a job, and dealing with grief, he learned to successfully adapted and grow in dozens of ways, including starting a new career as a mental health counselor in his 60s.

Tom loves empowering people to take small steps to create the life you truly want--all while navigating challenges and celebrating successes.

Tom is pragmatic, curious, collaborative, creative, and focused on your strengths. He enjoys laughing with clients and having some fun. Perhaps most importantly, no matter what you reveal, he will not judge you, which is one of his favorite parts of his job.

Most importantly, Tom is living proof that it's never too late to go for your dreams, start a new chapter or create the life you truly want.

Tom is accepting new clients in our Northbrook office. To schedule a session, call (or TEXT) 847-919-9096 or hello@inspirecounselingcenter.com
Meet Alex Gelber, MS, LPC-pending! Alex is a gentle, warm and hilarious therapist who brings a unique skill set from his time at Eating Recovery and Anxiety Treatment centers to Inspire's Evanston team.

Alex specializes in anxiety disorders and OCD. He works with clients of all ages, including kids, teens, adults, and families. He is passionate about promoting children’s mental health and is engaged in making a difference in a world of rapidly rising childhood anxiety rates.

He is trained in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), a type of CBT designed to help individuals with anxiety and OCD. ERP can lead to a reduction of anxiety, uncomfortable physical symptoms, and harmful coping habits.

In addition, Alex worked at a residential Eating Disorder program at an Eating Recovery Center utilizing the principles of CBT, ERP, and DBT to treat critically ill adolescents.

Eating Disorders are widely overlooked in males. The number of teen males dissatisfied with their bodies has TRIPLED over the last 25 years and many even have distorted perceptions of their appearance—a condition known as Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD). BDD is a condition where individuals focus obsessively on self-perceived physical flaws.

At the Anxiety Treatment Center, he worked with people who had severe conditions and many had run out of hope of ever feeling relief from their anxiety.

Arguably more important than his clinical experience, he's devoted to helping people build a better life. His style of therapy combines a love for psychological research with curiosity and sense of humor. He finds true joy working with people and nothing makes me happier than seeing them achieve their goals. Alex will work hard to build a warm and caring environment to give his clients a safe place to learn new tools they need to face their challenges head-on.

Living in Evanston and graduating from Northwestern University, Alex has a real understanding and appreciation for the Evanston community. He is thrilled to be serving the Evanston community and is accepting new clients.

To schedule with Alex, call (or TEXT) 847-919-9096 or hello@inspirecounselingcenter.com
Allow me to introduce you to Tim Mauery, MHP, Northwestern clinical intern. Tim has a beautiful and challenging story that led him to counseling at Inspire.

If you looking for someone who really "gets it", Tim brings clinical tools, but also personal ones in life, marriage and parenting, He knows how firsthand lost and discouraged it can feel when your kids or family are struggling.

Tim is a devoted husband and father of 3 daughters (and two female dogs!), who has lived in the Chicagoland area for more than 25 years. Prior to becoming a therapist and getting his second Master's Degree, Tim was studied human behavior through advertising and consumer insights.

Tim was compelled to become a therapist after seeing the life-changing results of counseling for his own family.

In 2016, his youngest daughter, who was an elite athlete, experienced a traumatic brain injury at the age of thirteen. Mental challenges accompanied her physical injury.

Though the next 8 years, they explored a variety of treatments to lessen his daughter's physical and emotional pain.

They navigated residential programs, therapeutic boarding schools, inpatient psychiatric units, wilderness programs, substance abuse programming, executive functioning training, transitional and sober living programming, Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP).

Individual and family counseling were a cornerstone for their recovery. Through counseling, his family not only survived--but became stronger and closer.

That is the sole reason he changed his professional path and dedicated his next chapter in his career to helping others through life’s challenges.

While Tim and his family endured challenges they never have imagined possible. He knows it is possible to heal and grow through even the darkest times.

He has a unique perspective (as the only male in his entire household!), and loves supporting men, parents, couples and families to navigate finding their new normal.

To schedule an appointment with Tim, call (or text) 847-919-9096 or hello@inspirecounselingcenter.com
