Perfectionism
Are you feeling overwhelmed to complete your tasks in life, work or home? Perfectionism is exhausting and impacts every aspect of your life. Procrastination impacts not just the procrastinator, but the other people in their life too! It can lead to high stress and anxiety, while increases cortisol levels for everyone involved. It can also impact sleep, which kids and teens so desperately need.
Perfectionism & Procrastination
People struggling with perfectionism often struggle with procrastination. They are critical of themselves and afraid of making mistakes, so they will often postpone doing work, homework or a task to avoid negative emotions.
They might be so worried about their work being criticized, that they delay turning things in for feedback.
Lastly, they never feel that anything is “perfect enough” so they have trouble stopping with their tasks. With this logic, if they start an assignment or task too early, they fear they’ll work on it for hours on end or won’t be able to stop until the deadline. And with this logic, if they wait until they’re almost at the deadline, it naturally limits the time spent on a task.
Perfectionism & Disordered Eating
Perfectionism can also be related to Disordered Eating, excessive exercise or obsessions with cosmetic procedures or beauty items. The quest to look perfect is exhausting and disordered eating patterns can interrupt your life, joy and health.
Perfectionism & Difficulty Making Decisions
For those struggling with perfectionism, making big decisions can be excruciating. It’s exhausting as they want to make the “perfect” or “right” choice, which is impossible because they can not see the future. It’s also impossible to make a “perfect” choice because there are pro’s and con’s to everything in life. Getting help, support and guidance can greatly reduce their anxiety and help them to move forward.
