Emma Salvino, MHP, Clinical Intern

Hi there, my name is Emma Salvino. I am a clinical mental health counselor-in-training at Northwestern University, working towards my LPC credentials with a focus on children and adolescents.

I grew up in the West Suburbs of Chicago and currently reside in Lincoln Park with my husband and our dog. I have had a few career shifts, recently leaving the corporate world to pursue my passion: mental health.

I was born deaf and received a cochlear implant at the age of 5. This has given me a unique perspective on the world and a deep understanding of what it means to overcome challenges and adapt to new ways of experiencing life. It has profoundly shaped how I approach therapy - I recognize that every individual’s story is unique and that growth often comes from finding strength in adversity. My goal is to provide a space in which clients can feel empowered to embrace their challenges, discover their strengths, and take meaningful steps towards greater self-confidence.

I have also faced traumatic experiences and tragedy, which deepened my understanding of the importance of healing, resilience, and connection. These experiences have shaped who I am today and inspire me to create a compassionate, non-judgmental space where clients can feel seen, heard, and supported as they navigate their own journeys towards healing and growth.

Life is going to bring challenges – some expected, others completely unforeseen. In these moments, it is easy to feel overwhelmed or stuck. That is why I believe in the importance of having a well-developed toolbox of strategies to rely on when times get tough. Whether it’s learning healthy coping mechanisms, seeking support, or practicing self-compassion, these tools empower us to face challenges head on and move towards healing and growth. I strive to help others build and personalize their toolboxes, so they can feel prepared, grounded, and capable no matter what life brings
