Hi there, my name is Emma Salvino. I am a clinical mental health counselor-in-training at Northwestern University, working towards my LPC credentials with a focus on children and adolescents.

I have had a few career shifts, recently leaving the corporate world, to pursue my passion of mental health. I understand the importance of finding the career path that aligns with your vision and dreams. I also know firsthand the rewards and challenges of a fast-paced career.

Life is going to bring challenges – some expected, others completely unforeseen. In these
moments, it is easy to feel overwhelmed or stuck. That is why I believe in the importance of
having a well-developed toolbox of strategies to rely on when times get tough.

Whether it’s learning healthy coping mechanisms, seeking support, or practicing self-
compassion, these tools empower us to face challenges head on and move towards healing and
growth. I strive to help others build and personalize their toolboxes, so they can feel prepared,
grounded, and capable no matter what life brings.

If there’s one thing I know, is that you can do difficult things, but it is a lot easier with support.
I’m here to walk with you no matter what you’re going through.

Career Changes and Career Purpose

For the last 4 years, I worked at Starcom, a global communications planning, marketing and media leader. As the Senior Planning Associate, I helped oversee media plans for Fortune 500 clients, building relationships with vendors and clients to serve in digital, TV, and print marketing.

During my corporate marketing career, I learned the value of building relationships with vendors, clients, and teammates. I also was taught the power of understanding people and how that is at center of all we do.

Now, as a therapist, I can apply my understanding of people to move their personal lives forward, so they can enjoy their one-and-only life. I also am excited to empower others to find the career path that works for their life, vision, work-life balance, and ultimately satisfaction and happiness.

Disabilities, Grief and Life Changes

I was born deaf and received a cochlear implant at the age of 5. This has given me a unique perspective on the world and a deep understanding of what it means to overcome challenges and adapt to new ways of experiencing life.

It has profoundly shaped how I approach therapy – I recognize that every individual’s story is unique and that growth often comes from finding strength in adversity.

My goal is to provide a space in which clients can feel empowered to embrace their challenges, discover their strengths, and take meaningful steps towards greater self-confidence.

I have also faced traumatic experiences and tragedy, which deepened my understanding of the importance of healing, resilience, and connection.

These experiences have shaped who I am today and inspire me to create a compassionate, non- judgmental space where clients can feel seen, heard, and supported as they navigate their own journeys towards healing and growth.

For Fun…

When I’m not in classes at Northwestern, studying, or working at Inspire, I love spending time with my husband and our dog. We live in Lincoln Park and love all the city life has to offer: spending time outdoors, taking long walks through the neighborhoods, and enjoying quiet afternoons at the lakefront.

I also enjoy cooking new recipes and exploring Chicago’s different neighborhoods, discovering hidden culinary gems. I am passionate about staying curious and enjoys exploring new experiences, whether it’s trying my hand at pottery, delving into a tarot card reading for the first time, or experimenting with pilates and yoga. These activities allow me to deepen self-discovery, stay grounded, and bring fresh perspectives to my work as a counselor.
