Hello! I am Lizzie Kinnich, a clinical mental health counseling intern attending Northwestern University.
As a cancer survivor, mom to a high-needs tween, and part of the “sandwich generation,” I understand that life can feel complicated and overwhelming. I was fortunate to have received therapy when I needed it most, and I feel grateful to have the opportunity to help others who are finding themselves in need of a non-judgmental space for unconditional support.
My therapeutic style originates in person-centered therapy with an eclectic use of modalities, techniques, and interventions. My goal is to walk alongside you as you discover the best version of yourself, void of judgment.
I love to help children with emotional regulation, cultivate empathy and respect for others, and express emotions in a safe space. I am passionate about working with adults looking to practice self-compassion, and feel more centered in decision-making.
About me…
I grew up in Northbrook and attended Glenbrook North High School. After graduating from college, I returned to Chicago and worked for 13 years at a large healthcare company while earning an MBA from Loyola University. After leaving the corporate world, I earned a Special Education degree from NEIU and worked for two years in a therapeutic day school on the North Shore. After the birth of my son, I became a stay-at-home mom as I navigated developmental support and interventions for a high-energy little boy.
Professional Affiliations
I am a member of the American Counseling Association, the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development, and the Association for Spiritual, Ethical, and Religious Values in Counseling.
For fun…
I am usually on the move with my 10-year-old son and husband of 22 years. In my free time, I enjoy catching up with family and friends, volunteering in my community, summer nights at Ravinia, visiting the Chicago Botanic Garden, traveling, and trying to focus on personal health.
Guiding clients as they try to do better and feel better will be incredibly humbling. I look forward to sharing in someone else’s journey to help experience life from a more centered place. I aim to fulfill that mission with energy, focus, and commitment.
