Patrick Cecil, MHP, Clinical Intern

College Students, Young Adults, and Adults

Anxiety, OCD, depression, LGBTQIA+, Intimacy and Sexuality, and Perfectionism

Hi, my name is Patrick, but feel free to call me Pat! I am a graduate student at Northwestern University working toward my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

I grew up in Southwest Michigan and have been living in Chicago since 2020. Before entering the counseling field, I completed my bachelor’s degree at the University of Michigan, where I studied Microbiology and French. After graduating, I felt drawn to explore the world and learn more about different cultures. In 2019, I moved to France and taught English to high school students in the Saint-Étienne area.

Working with adolescents during that time showed me how meaningful it can be to support people as they navigate periods of growth, stress, and identity development.

My Professional Journey

After returning to the United States, I earned my Master’s degree in Psychology from the University of Chicago. I later worked in research at Northwestern University studying cognitive aging, where I conducted in-depth interviews with adults about their life experiences and cognitive health.

This work strengthened my appreciation for the power of listening and the importance of creating space for people to share their stories. It also deepened my interest in helping people explore their experiences, better understand themselves, and navigate life’s challenges with support.

Who I Help

I enjoy working with college students, young adults, and adults who may be navigating anxiety, depression, perfectionism, relationship concerns, or questions around identity and life direction.

These stages of life often involve important transitions, and therapy can offer a supportive space to slow down, reflect, and build greater clarity and self-understanding.

My Approach to Counseling

When working together, clients can expect warmth, curiosity, humor, and honesty. I believe therapy should be a collaborative space where you feel heard, respected, and supported.

My goal is to create an environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings openly, build insight into patterns that may be holding you back, and develop tools that support meaningful growth and well-being.

I feel genuinely grateful that you took the time to read my bio. Seeking support takes courage, and it is an honor to be able to walk alongside people in that process.

LGBTQIA+ Support

I strive to provide an affirming space for LGBTQIA+ individuals where identity, relationships, and life experiences can be explored openly and without judgment.

Obsessive-Compulsive Concerns (OCD)

I am particularly interested in supporting clients who experience intrusive thoughts, compulsive behaviors, or cycles of rumination. Therapy can help build awareness of these patterns and develop strategies to reduce the distress they create.

For Fun…

Outside of counseling, I enjoy playing guitar, reading, learning new languages, traveling, hiking, playing chess, and spending time with friends and family.
