Magic Bedtime Formula for Kids

What is the first thing you feel when someone says “bedtime routine?” Anxiety? Frustration? Hopelessness? Embarrassment?

You are not alone.

So many parents struggle with bedtime for their kids. Let’s face it, it’s the end of the day. You’re exhausted. You’ve used up all your willpower to be kind, polite, answer questions, get stuff done, and then you have to face the gauntlet–getting your kids to sleep.

Maybe you’ve given up the fight. Maybe you’ve decided it’s not worth it. You are so tired, you let the kids sleep with you. Or, you lay in bed with them until they fall asleep — falling asleep yourself.

We totally understand! That’s why we’re here to help.

Sleep is so important–for your kids AND you! You already know that. But, did you know that your brain actually learns while you sleep? Your mind reviews the day and you wake up smarter. That’s why it’s better to study and sleep than pull an all-nighter. This is especially important for your kids during developing years.

We’re not here to preach the importance of sleep. If you’re reading this, you already know. You are a smart, intelligent person. Just like anything, dieting, budgeting, sleep routines. It’s not the knowing that’s a problem, it’s the doing.

Lately, our phones have been ringing off the hooks with people who caught wind of a special recipe for sleep our beloved Clinical Director, Becky Freeman-Murray, created. She calls it “Miss Becky’s Magic Sleep Solution.”

In order to help her young clients to make progress, she and the parents realized the kids needed to be getting better sleep. And, that bedtime was a real hassle, if most parents are honest.

So Becky pulled together a bunch of sleep research, mixed with her 25+ years experience, and created her own recipe for sleep.

The goal is to help your child

  1. Fall asleep on their own
  2. In their own bed
  3. STAY ASLEEP!

And guess what? IT IS WORKING!!!!

Client after client has been having success with this. Parent and parent has been thanking their lucky stars. At last, bedtime is not a battle.

We wanted to share this secret recipe with you today! We believe in sharing with everyone, client — or not. Our goal is to make the world a better place, one person at a time.

Miss Becky’s Magic Sleep Solution

  • 10 deep breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth.
  • Tighten muscles for 30 seconds, then let go. Start with the feet, calves, thighs, stomach, chest, legs, neck and head.
  • Create a nonsense word that the child will say over and over again until he or she falls asleep like (the nonesense word engages your non-logic part of the brain, making it easier to fall asleep. If you use a word you know, it engages your logic, thinking, making it more difficult to sleep)

That’s it! Try it out and let us know how it goes. Sometimes trouble sleeping can be a sign that something else is going on with your child (anxiety, fears, troubles at school, etc.). If you need more support, we have therapists to support parents and child/adolescent therapists, who can help address anything else that’s getting in the way of sleep and tailor some of these steps for your children.
