Lindsay Rowell, MA, AMFT, Children (4-9), Adolescents (10-17), College, Adults, Couples, Families

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Greensboro, NC and now live in Old Town Chicago, IL.

What do you do for fun (hobbies, pets, adventures, etc.)?

For fun, I love to take my dog, Ziggy, on long walks by the lake and stay active outside with my fiancé. I love to channel my creative side by redecorating spaces and exploring Pinterest. I am always up for an adventure, traveling, trying a new coffee shop or restaurant, and spending time with family & friends!

What’s your favorite inspirational quote, song, or book?

My favorite book is Love Does by Bob Goff. My favorite phrase is “You have to be willing to tolerate discomfort for growth.”

Who do you love working with (ages, genders, types of people)?

I love working with a variety of people, ages, and backgrounds. I often find myself drawn to adolescents and young adults.

What is your favorite thing to help people overcome? (anxiety, disordered eating, depression, perfectionism, etc.)?

My favorite thing to work on with clients is anxiety, depression, and relational conflict.

What is your approach to therapy, what’s your vibe?

I have an eclectic approach to therapy that includes CBT, DBT, ERP, Rogerian, and existential therapy. These terms are all jargon that, when boiled down, mean that I love to build on your resiliencies in order to help work through challenges and improve well-being. Overall, my vibe is very laid back and personable. When we’re in session together, I hope to bring a sense of warmth and unconditional support.

What excites you most about your job?

That “aha moment.” I love seeing my clients gain a clearer perspective of themselves, their families, and life in general. Even though life is full of uncertainties, even just learning how to find more comfort in the uncomfortable/uncertain areas of life can be incredibly helpful. I am also so grateful to build a therapeutic relationship with my clients. To have others feel comfortable and safe in talking about life with me is such a humbling feeling.

What inspired you to become a therapist/counselor?

I have always been a “people person” and I know there are a lot of jobs where you can connect with others. However, I wanted a career where I could be a part of the solution, not the problem. I love seeing people find strength and empower themselves.
