Depression, Anxiety, Self-Esteem, ADHD, OCD, Relationship Challenges, Parenting Stressors

Hi! My name is Claire, and I’m so excited at the possibility of working with you! I grew up in Wilmette and am a New Trier graduate, so I like to think I have a feel for what it’s like to grow up on the North Shore in such a unique (and let’s be honest, pretty stressful!) culture.

I went to Marquette for undergrad, and got degrees in Secondary Education, English Literature, and Spanish Literature. I taught for 2 1⁄2 years in Wisconsin before moving back to Chicago, where I worked as a nanny on the North Shore, then at Kenilworth Union Church leading their youth ministry.

Teaching and working at KUC led me to become a therapist–I absolutely loved supporting the kids I worked with. Sometimes that meant going over a challenging essay with them, being a listening ear after a rough breakup, or stepping into a “hype-woman” role when they were feeling nervous about an upcoming tryout or audition. It’s such a privilege to be that person someone can trust and find support from, and it’s amazing that I’m working in a field where I can do that every day!

Middle Adolescents

In my work as a teacher and therapist at Plena Mind Center, I’ve been able to support adolescents through many types of challenges. My hope is that working with me can help you feel validated, understood, and seen. I’ve utilized so many amazing modalities in my work at Plena, and I find ERP (Exposure Response Prevention), CBT, and Supportive Talk therapy to be most helpful in addressing issues like anxiety, friendship stress, low mood or self-esteem challenges, and depression.

Couples, Parents, and Families

During graduate school, I studied family and couple’s counseling; I approach my work with all couples, parents, and families with a non-judgmental and open and authentic lens. I feel lucky in that I’ve had the unique opportunity through nannying to experience the ins and outs of different family systems, which has taught me so much about different parenting and relationship styles.

Besides nannying, I’ve had the privilege of working with parents and families in a more clinical setting, facilitating shared growth and learning throughout the process. At Plena, one of the most rewarding experiences for me was being able to support families and parents in building effective communication, improving behavioral challenges, and strengthening the family system as a whole through role-play exercises, parent coaching, and creative activities that engage both parents and kids alike.

For Fun…

I absolutely love anything creative–my favorite outlet is singing and writing songs; I feel most myself when I’m in the zone with my guitar or at the piano bench writing something new. I live with my incredible partner and our dog, Libby, and we love going for long walks or curling up with a new novel.
